Libyan telecoms giant fights media smear in Sierra Leone

Libya-owned telecoms company, LAP Green Network, has met with obstacle
in its effort to launch its mobile services in Sierra Leone this year
The company is fighting allegations that it is engaged in some
“illegal” activities in this effort.
But it denies it.
In 2008, under the Libya Africa Portfolio (LAP), the Green Network
secured license to provide GSM, WiMax and ISP services in Sierra
Leone. But the 2011 Libyan crisis halted its planned launching in
April the same year.
The company has been working on completing its pre-launching
preparations under a subsidiary called Ambitel. But recently

allegations surfaced in the local media that it was engaged in
unspecified illegal activities.
In a statement on Thursday, the parent company, LAP GreenN, vehemently
rejected the “disinformation and false allegation”.
“We vigorously contest the allegations…” it said, blaming a renegade
board member among the local staff for the situation.
The statement stressed that LAP GreenN was committed to its Sierra
Leone operation in spite of the “political upheaval in Libya.”
The Libyan civil war halted all ongoing projects been undertaken with
the then government of the late Momar Ghadafi, who was a close friend
of President Ernest Bai Koroma.
“Ambitel has been subjected to significant challenges over recent
years which have delayed development of the business…we are putting
our energies and resources to ensure the provision of world class
telecommunications services to the people of Sierra Leone this year,”
said Wafik Al Shater, Chairman of LAP Green.
In 2010, the company announced a US$50m investment within a period of three years.
It constructed 128 cell sites across the country.
If the 2013 launching goes as planned, it will bring to five mobile
phone operators in Sierra Leone, for a population of about six
million.
Aware of the tough challenge it might face in the already competitive
environment, LAP GreenN have hinted “potential” partnership with
“other industry participants.”

I drop a leave a response whenever I especially enjoy a article on a blog or
I have something to add to the discussion. Usually it's a result of the passion displayed in the article I looked at. And on this article "Libyan telecoms giant fights media smear in Sierra Leone". I was excited enough to post a thought ;-) I do have a few questions for you if you tend not to mind. Is it just me or does it look like like some of the responses appear as if they are left by brain dead folks? :-P And, if you are writing on other sites, I would like to keep up with you. Would you make a list the complete urls of your communal pages like your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile?
